Adamson Splawn is never paid on a percentage for any services. Our clients receive support to recover disaster funding as part of their contracts. Clients are billed the same as fundraising and grant writing services.

Funds can absolutely be recovered by nonprofits. The process is detailed, requires many meetings and takes up to 12 months. We encourage nonprofits that have been impacted by disasters to seek reimbursement funding whenever practicable.

What pre-disaster advice can you offer to nonprofits?

Failing to Plan = Failure

These are our top recommendations for disaster preparation:

  1. Make sure you have an Emergency Management Policy
  2. Create a directory of vendor who will help you prepare for, weather and recover from disasters: including landscapers, food vendors, and generator sources.
  3. Detail how clients and staff will function prior to, during and after the disaster event.
  4. Take photos of damages, including landscaping, downed and damaged trees (and root balls) and any products such as foodstuffs that are ruined.
  5. Make sure all staff and volunteers have dry, centralized places to return receipts for any disaster related costs and ensure they are turned in as quickly as practicable with expenses detailed for accounting.
  6. Be safe and ALWAYS have a plan.
