Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work on a commission or contingency of funds raised?
No, and we recommend that you do not pay fundraisers on a commission or contingency basis. According to The Association of Fundraising Professional’s Code of Ethical Principles and Standards, “Members shall not accept compensation or enter into a contract that is based on a percentage of contributions; nor shall members accept finder’s fees or contingent fees.”
Does our Board of Directors need to support and/or approve of your consulting work?
Yes, a nonprofit Board of Directors should always be apprised of fundraising activities and deeply engaged with your agency’s fundraising staff, consultants and community volunteers. The Board is critically important and Board members must serve as connectors between their personal and professional networks and your nonprofit’s programs and services. The Board members should enthusiastically leverage new and increased resources for your organization.
Do we need a 501 (c) (3) designation prior to engaging Adamson Splawn consulting services?
A 501 (c) (3) is not required to engage our consultants for strategic planning and program design. However, the 501 is a must-have for seeking corporate support and sponsorships, private foundation grants and charitable contributions.
